UK and US Refuse to Agree to Ethical Data Use – Are They Planning to Steal Your Data for AI?

Once again, the UK and US have shown their true colours. When given the chance to commit to ethical AI use, they refused. While nations like France, China, and India stepped up to sign an international agreement pledging an "open", "inclusive", and "ethical" approach to AI, the UK government hid behind empty excuses of "security." Could this actually be because they want to exploit AI for their own gain?

The Government’s Cowardly Move

In the BBC, Andrew Dudfield, head of AI at fact-checking organisation Full Fact, made it clear:

"By refusing to sign today's international AI Action Statement the UK Government risks undercutting its hard-won credibility as a world leader for safe, ethical and trustworthy AI innovation."

Translation? The UK government is torpedoing its own credibility on AI ethics. But why? Because ethical AI might limit their ability to hoard and exploit data? Because they want unrestricted power to feed your personal data into AI models without your consent?

Your Rights Are on the Line

Governments are supposed to protect people, but instead, this decision signals something far more sinister. The UK and US aren’t looking out for you—they’re looking out for themselves, for big tech companies, and for unchecked AI growth. Did permission to use your data? Will they for it ask for it in the future? Probably not. With their refusal to commit to ethical AI, they’re making it crystal clear what their view is on safeguarding your rights.

What happens next? If they won’t sign an agreement promoting ethical AI, what kind of regulation can we expect? Judging by their current stance, we’re looking at a future where AI serves corporate interests and state surveillance, not the people.

Take Action Now

At Ethical AI Network, we find this completely unacceptable. The government should be protecting its citizens, not selling them out to AI companies and data-hungry tech giants.

But we don’t have to take this lying down. We can fight back. Join us. The more voices we have, the harder it will be for them to ignore us. Sign up, speak out, and let’s hold our government accountable for the ethical use of AI.

Because if we don’t, who will?
